About

Firing up a super fast and streamlined booking system

Brief

Clays are a unique activity bar, bringing a twist to your usual night out. Visitors can play a game of indoor clay target shooting with friends while enjoying cocktails and sharing plates.

Since launching their booking site in 2020, Clays have been limited by their off-the-shelf implementation of the Sevenrooms booking engine. With a third location opening soon, they were ready to create something bespoke that made the experience of booking with Clays easier and more tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

UX/UI Design

Increasing conversion through a seamless user experience

We set the benchmark very high, taking inspiration from best-in-class examples from across the web. With a focus on increasing conversion, we redesigned the global navigation to accommodate a bookings search component that was present throughout the experience of browsing the Clays site.

Our challenge was to design a new booking flow to meet a variety of business goals: drive more high-value bookings, incentivise visitors to book at off-peak times, encourage them to upgrade to packages, and allow the sales team to restrict options based on group size.

While the back-end was complex, the user’s experience had to be seamless. We designed thoughtful features to make the user journey genuinely helpful - like allowing them to check a summary of previously completed steps, or see a timeline of their booking to share with friends and make sure everyone knows the plan.

Concept

An API integration for ultimate control

A core benefit of a bespoke booking flow is that user booking options can be controlled by the sales team. For example, a large group trying to book in the Christmas period would be required to choose a package. We integrated the new flow with a purpose-built orchestration layer API, giving the Clays team the ability to set multiple parameters on user bookings, measure the impact on booking rates, and optimise.

Using this method of integration allowed the UI to mesh seamlessly with the multiple backend services required to fully facilitate organising and securing a booking at Clays without detrimental performance or user experience. Furthermore, it gives greater third party flexibility for the future.
